Milieudefensie wants to stop deforestation. We can’t do it alone. That is why we work together with other organizations in various partnerships.
Deforestation threatens people’s livelihoods, especially in developing countries. Civil Society Organizations (SCOs) in these countries can play an important role in protecting tropical forests. That is why we work toward strengthening these organizations. We do this via the Green Livelihoods Alliance, our strategic partnership with IUCN Netherlands, Tropenbos International and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Milieudefensie also works closely with national Friends of the Earth chapters in various tropical countries.
Banks, insurance companies and pension funds invest in or lend money to large palm oil companies. This means that our savings account and pension fund are being used to fund the destruction of rainforests. This must stop. That is why we are working together in the Fair Green & Global Alliance, an alliance that includes Both ENDS, ActionAid, the Clean Clothes Campaign, Milieudefensie, SOMO and the Transnational Institute.

Milieudefensie is a member of the international network Fair Finance Guide, an international network that was established a couple of years after the Eerlijke Bankwijzer was launched in the Netherlands. This guide to fair banks has been successful in holding banks accountable for their actions involving human rights, sustainability and climate change issues. The FFGI has been talking to big banks, insurance companies and pension funds worldwide since 2014.
