Mozambique LNG: financiers remain silent on alleged human rights violations

Financiers of the controversial Mozambique LNG project so far remain silent on the need for an independent investigation into alleged serious human rights violations. The Netherlands remains silent too

With the support of 126 organizations worldwide, we called on 31 financiers of TotalEnergies' controversial gas project last month to take their responsibility. In a letter, we urged them to:

  1. Support an independent international investigation into the alleged mass killings of Mozambican civilians near the gas project, as reported in Politico.
  2. Stop financing this project.

So far, Dutch export credit agency Atradius DSB — which has pledged over €1 billion export support to the project — and other financiers have failed to respond to this appeal. This is unacceptable.
