Palm oil sustainability label RSPO is challenged over a deforestation company in Liberia

Seventy one NGOs demand the RSPO reinstates the stop work order for Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL), one of the largest industrial palm oil companies in Liberia that is controlled by international palm oil giant Golden Agri-Resources.

GVL was found to violate the rights of local communities and deforest around 1000 hectares of natural forest. Liberia is the country in West Africa with the largest remaining tract of Upper Guinean Forest. If the RSPO allows GVL to expand, these forests and Liberian community lands are at great risk.

The RSPO membership is coming together at its annual Round Table in Malaysia 3-5 November. We urge everyone at that meeting to put our NGO letter on the agenda.
