The response of Friends of the Earth Netherlands (Milieudefensie) after the two-day session at the court in the case of the four Nigerian farmers and Friends of the Earth Netherlands vs. Shell is:
Donald Pols, managing director Milieudefensie (Friends of the Earth Netherlands):
“It has once again become clear that Shell puts profit above human lives. Shell's lawyers today and yesterday, as they did for the past twelve years, pulled out all the stops to let the oil giant get away with wrecking the lives of the people in the Niger Delta. Shell earns billions in Nigeria, but refuses to adequately clean up oil that has leaked and to compensate farmers and fishermen for damages and sufferings. I am confident that after 12 years on the 18th of December, the Court will give a ruling that will give the four Nigerian plaintiffs a future again."
