Mapping mills and concessions in Cameroon

Accurate and complete data are essential to support the monitoring of commodity-driven deforestation. Milieudefensie, in collaboration with AidEnvironment, aims to address critical gaps in publicly available data on palm oil, rubber, logging concessions and palm oil mills in Cameroon.

Current datasets, including those from Global Forest Watch (GFW) and the Universal Mill List (UML), are incomplete, which limits the effectiveness of monitoring corporate deforestation activities. Data about important deforestation cases, such as the Camvert palm oil concession and illegally assigned logging concessions in the Ebo forest in Cameroon, are absent from public databases.

The findings from our research will support updates to existing information on open-source platforms and enable monitoring to hold corporations and financial institutions accountable for their deforestation impact.
