Shell continues to cause dangerous climate change despite its own green promises, international climate agreements and court rulings. This is according to the report 'Shell Fossil Fuel Production: still pushing the world towards Climate Chaos'.

The report was produced in collaboration with Oil Change International with data from the Rystadt database, which is used by the oil industry itself for market analysis.

The report shows that:

  • Shell owns stakes in more than 700 oil and gas assets that are yet to be developed;
  • the total of all these projects equals 30x the annual emissions of the Netherlands;
  • the company has authorised the development of 10 new oil and gas projects since the ruling of the court in the climate case of May 2021.

Conclusion: if Shell complies with the Paris climate agreement and actually implements the verdict, the company must stop all new oil and gas projects and developments. Even some ongoing projects would have to stop immediately.
